A quick checklist to help you feel prepared, organized, and focused before your mediation session.
Use this checklist as you get ready for your mediation. You don’t have to do everything perfectly—this is simply a guide to help you feel more prepared.
You can print this page or save it as a PDF for your records.
Before the day of mediation
☐ I understand the basic purpose of mediation
☐ I know the date, time, and location (or video link) for the session.
☐ I have gathered important documents (contracts, notices, emails, etc.).
☐ I’ve written down the main issues I want to discuss.
☐ I’ve thought about what a reasonable outcome might look like.
Thinking through my goals
☐ I’ve identified my top priorities (time, cost, relationships, privacy, etc.).
☐ I’ve considered where I may be flexible and where I’m not.
☐ I’ve thought about possible options or solutions.
Communication and mindset
☐ I’m prepared to explain how the situation affects me, not just blame.
☐ I’m willing to listen to the other person’s perspective.
☐ I understand that I don’t have to agree to anything I’m not comfortable with.
Day-of logistics
☐ I’ve allowed enough travel time so I don’t feel rushed.
☐ I’ve arranged childcare / work coverage if needed.
☐ I know approximately how long the session may last.
☐ I’ve brought paper, pen, and any notes I want to reference.
After mediation
☐ I understand that any agreement will be written in clear language.
☐ I know I can ask questions about what the agreement means.
☐ I know what my next steps will be if we reach an agreement—or if we don’t.
